The Bates Family Reveals “Emotional” Moment Daughter Layla Cried Over New Baby Sister
Welcoming a new family member always brings a mix of new emotions, especially for young children. In a recent video, Carlin Bates and her husband Evan Stewart (of The Stewart Fam channel) shared the honest feelings of their two older children, Layla and Zade, about the arrival of their new baby sister, Navy Kate.
While the video captures many everyday activities, including a trip to Dollywood and Zade’s soccer practice, the most heartwarming part was the family’s update on how the older siblings are adjusting.
Overwhelming Sibling Love
Carlin mentioned she frequently gets asked how Layla and Zade are doing with Navy. She happily reported that the transition has been surprisingly smooth: “Honestly… we’ve had like no issues, the kids are in love with her”.
She even noted that Navy’s arrival seems to have “bonded Layla and Zade together a little bit more” as they embrace their roles as the “big siblings.”
Zade, in particular, has been exceptionally affectionate. Evan shared that even during soccer practice, Zade will “yell across the way, ‘I love you Navy Kate!'” or run over to give the baby a kiss before returning to his game.
Layla’s Unexpected Emotional Moment
However, living up to the video’s title, “We didn’t expect her to get emotional,” Evan recounted a surprising and touching moment with their daughter, Layla.
The incident occurred when the family was looking at some newborn Polaroid photos they had taken of Navy. They caught Layla looking at the instant photos and “tearing up”.
When they asked her what was wrong, Layla emotionally asked, “Why is there so many photos of Navy, but you don’t have any of me as a baby?”.
It turned out to be a sweet misunderstanding. As her parents explained, Layla simply didn’t realize her own baby photos were all saved on their phones.
A Sweet Resolution
Once her parents cleared up the confusion, Layla not only felt better but discovered a new “treasure trove.” Evan reflected, “That is the coolest thing about vlogging and documenting like all of this”.
Now, Layla is on a “kick” of watching the family’s old vlogs (which she adorably calls “Storew”). “She’s been like binge-watching all of the ones when she was a baby,” Carlin said, with Zade eagerly joining in.
It was a “real” family moment that showcased the innocent but deep feelings kids navigate as they learn to share the spotlight with a new sibling.
